• Dog starts in ‘middle’ & ‘flat’ position.

• IRM – Indirect Reward Marker (“Get it”).

• DRM – Direct Reward Marker (“Yes”).

1. IRM – DRM (Dog in position, owner walks away in straight line, places food on floor, comes back to position, dog is released with “get it” and brought back with “yes”).

2. DRM – IRM – DRM (Same set up, but now we use “yes” then “get it” and “yes” again).

3. IRM – Recall – DRM (Now as the dog ‘gets it’, use recall cue to bring back before ‘yes’ when dog returns).

4. Recall – DRM – IRM – Recall – DRM (Now you’ll recall to start, then send away before using recall to bring back)

5. IRM – Recall – DRM – IRM – Recall - DRM (So now we’re going to recall dog away from food before it gets to it – blocking with lead if necessary, then go through the usual process).
