• Start game with ‘ready’ & end with ‘enough’.

  • ‘Yes’ to bring dog in & get reward.

  • ‘Get it’ to fetch treat away from owner & reset.

  • Once ‘yes’ is conditioned, hand signal will be given before ‘yes’ to begin conditioning of hands as luring signals.

  • Get dog comfortable with environment – going over/under & through anything.

  • Master movements & positions – forward & backward, spin left & right, sit, flat, middle, heel.

  • Acclimation of lead pressure – anything you can do with a lure you will now be doing with the lead.

  • Once dog is anticipating behaviour before lead pressure/lure is given – you are ready for phase 2.

Treat Chase Game Phase 1

  • Increase criteria for success in each position, making sure everything is as you would want.

  • We’re going to build some persistence in each position by ‘jackpotting’ - Note some positions will be rewarded for staying in them as the world moves around them, others will be rewarded for staying with me.

  • We will then start adding distractions and doing this in different environments. We want the dog to be able to hold positions no matter what before adding the cue.

  • Once dog will go into position with a slight gesture/lead pressure & will hold that position waiting for a reward, anywhere with any distractions, you’re ready for phase 3.
